
Madeleine Johnson
has written her “Notebook” column for more than a decade. She lived in I was born and grew up in Rockford, Illinois, graduated from Wellesley College and received a master’s degree in art history from the University of California, Berkeley. I lived in Italy between 1988 and 2017, where I was the correspondent for The Journal of Art. Since then, I have written about about travel in Italy, Italian politics and culture as well as housing and urban planning for a variety of publications including the New York Post, Prospect and The Financial Times. My monthly column in www.theamericanmag.com features personal essays on living in Italy. Since living in New Hampshire, I have become a contributor to our fine regional newspaper The Upper Valley News.
